ABOUT BIRA SHUKLA

Bira Shukla completed her five-year Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in India, where she officially learned to navigate deadlines, caffeine-fueled studio nights, and the occasional last-minute design breakthrough. During her academic years, curiosity took her beyond borders when she secured a fully funded Erasmus+ semester exchange to Turkey. As part of this program, she carried out an extensive urban analysis and design project for Bologna, Italy—an experience that shaped her interest in contextual, people-centric design. Her academic journey was complemented by competitive explorations. She secured first position in an earthquake-resistant workshop design competition at IIT Kanpur and, at her graduation ceremony, was awarded the Meritorious Student Award for Architecture 2019 by Kajaria - an acknowledgment of her attention to detail and design rigor.

Bira’s initial professional years were spent working with architectural firms in Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Gurgaon, where she focused on conceptual design, 3D visualisations, and working drawings for residential, institutional, and commercial projects. Alongside full-time roles, she freelanced on projects across India, Australia, Germany, Mauritius, and Nigeria, strengthening her ability to adapt to diverse cultural contexts, project scales, and client expectations. In 2021, she moved to Germany and joined a Frankfurt-based architectural firm specializing in the renovation and expansion of historically significant schools and residential buildings. Her role spanned the entire architectural process - from concept design and research to government approvals, detailed working drawings, budgeting, construction timelines, site coordination, and documentation. This phase grounded her understanding of architecture as a deeply hands-on, regulation-driven discipline. After several years of professional growth and extensive travel across Europe, Bira returned to India with the intention of reinterpreting a structured, systems-driven design approach within a fast-growing and dynamic context.

Today, she works on projects in both India and Germany, collaborating with homeowners, businesses, real estate teams, and builders. She enjoys working across scales and typologies, believes that good design must be both thoughtful and buildable, and is drawn to projects that ask the right questions - preferably before construction begins. If architecture is about shaping spaces for people, then Bira Shukla’s journey - across countries, cultures, and construction sites - continues to shape the way she designs: intuitive, practical and responsive to how spaces are lived in.

Bira Shukla is an architect who views design as the process of turning structure into lived experience. With academic training rooted in India and professional exposure across Europe and beyond, her work focuses on creating spaces that feel intuitive, comfortable, and meaningful - where a building responds not just to its context, but to the people who inhabit it. Balancing structured systems with human needs, she approaches architecture as a collaborative journey of shaping places that clients can truly call their own.
